Children's Dentistry

We love to see children at Balls Road Dental Practice and aim to make appointments relaxing and fun. If we can teach our children how to look after their teeth and gums they can have a healthy smile for life!

The awful truth is that tooth decay is still increasing in children in the UK.  At Balls Road Dental Practice we believe that we can prevent our children from having problems with their teeth by teaching them how to brush well and educating them about a healthy diet. It really is so important to get this message across and the earlier we start, the greater the chances of success.

We encourage parents to bring babies for their first visit as soon as the teeth start to come through and definitely by the age of 1 (as recommended by the British Society for Paediatric Dentistry

Children’s Dentistry at Balls Road Dental Practice includes:

  • Routine check-ups at least twice a year or more frequently if necessary

  • Advice on brushing including demonstrations and tips

  • Advice about how to avoid a sugary diet, especially emphasizing the problems that sugary drinks cause.

  • Regular fluoride varnish application to help prevent decay. This is a very simple process which involves the gel being gently placed on the teeth and it only takes a minute or two.

  • Fissure sealants placed as a preventative measure on the back teeth if necessary.

  • White fillings if teeth have unfortunately already decayed

  • Providing sports guards for children who engage in contact sports

  • Referral to a specialist orthodontist at the appropriate age if orthodontic treatment (braces) needed.
